Biography
Franz Giessibl received his Diploma in physics from Technische Universität München, and his Ph. D from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Germany. He worked in Park Scientific Instruments Inc., Sunnyvale, California, McKinsey&Company Inc., München, and Universität Augsburg. Since 2006 he is a professor and chair in experimental and applied physics in Universität Regensburg, Germany.
He has received many awards for his outstanding researches, including the 1994 R&D 100 award, the 2000 Deutscher Nanowissenschaftspreis, the 2001 Rudolf-Kaiser-Prize, the 2009 Karl-Heinz-Beckurts Prize, the 2014 Joseph F. Keithley Award For Advances in Measurement Science of the American Physical Society, the 2015 Rudolf-Jaeckel Prize of the German Vacuum Society, and the 2016 Feynman Prize in Nanotechnology.
